Forget the tired cornucopia for your centerpiece this holiday season and opt for fresh fruit accents to commemorate an elegant and enticing abundance. We’ve taken some of our favorite local fruit and incorporated them into a holiday meal setting to bring an elegant harvest to the table.
Miniature Seckel Pears are super sweet and absolutely darling, especially as a placeholder for you and your guests. Take a thin ribbon and tie a small strip of cardstock to the stem with each name designated. After dinner’s over they make a great small dessert, and they are a perfect size for kids to enjoy.
Make an arrangement of the fruit of your choice on a cake platter for a naturally dramatic centerpiece or feature on a buffet table. We made it simple with three rustic Golden Italian Bosc Pears, but feel free to use any fruit of your choice. Just don’t be surprised if it gets eaten!
If you’re still drawn to the image of an overflowing vessel of goodies, try something other than a wicker cone. Not to toot our own horn, but a basket like that from our Grand Collection would look stunning. Go a little more modern by using a carved wooden salad bowl or a glass hurricane vase filled with the fruit of your choice. Click here to find more great decorating ideas!

Due to the exceptional quality of this recipe, plus its fantastic sources, we’re featuring a special guest recipe this month courtesy of Design*Sponge and Anna of the textile company duo Deadly Squire. This tart is a wonderful contrast to many of the super sweet desserts served over the holidays. Anna, who has mastered the recipe over the years, says “This is my favorite apple tart because it is sour, sweet and savory - too many apple desserts are too sweet.” Try it out and wow your guests this year, both with the taste and its impressive display. Often times we have so much enthusiasm for fresh fruit, gourmet edibles and the beautiful place we live that we can’t cram it all in this newsletter. That’s why we have a blog and that’s why you should head over there right away to hear about Becky’s mountain biking adventure or see our booth from the Hood River Harvest Festival last month. Keep an eye out for a few new bloggers on the horizon as well. With the craziness of the holiday season coming up it’s bound to get interesting! Go, Blog, Go!
